Ever since YouTube became a mainstream source of media, it has become one of the most popular websites. With the rapid increase in popularity, more and more users are using YouTube due to its user friendly platform and conveniency. YouTube has also become a source of income for many, many people create YouTube videos as a full time job. YouTube has become such a versatile source of media. Whatever you want you can find, videos related to comedy, skits, product reviews, instructional, lessons, etc. YouTube has revolutionized entertainment, before YouTube was mainstream, people would watch television, read books, go to the movie theater, etc. Now, we can spend hours on YouTube with access to a plethora of different videos on our computers or mobile devices at our own comfort for free.
If I were to be recently hired by Baruch College to be apart of the new media team, some of the advice I would give is to use every single type of social media out there. Even the ones that are not as popular. Then give people incentives to share and promote the college. For example, a voucher for a free lunch or something similar to that sort so that more people will be inclined to help promote Baruch College. Another thing I would do is help the college utilize new media to help make the college student's lives easier. Things that are dedicated specifically to things in relevance to assist them. For example, if they wanted to buy or sell textbooks, help use new media to develop a tool to make it easier to assist the student in buying or selling textbooks.
I always thought that YouTube was interesting and it's actually one of the forms of new media that I use everyday. You can really see how it is evolving and famous YouTubers are evolving out of it. Other platforms can include livestreaming services, but some of the most recent trends have included disstracks as well as boxing matches. These revolve around the same clickbait titles that bring us to YouTube in the first place. People create false drama and then viewers are attracted to this drama which draws users to their channel.
